Hi! I've been pet sitting for over 20 years!
I first started pet sitting at my house for the Pampered Pet Inn in 1990. They needed pet sitters who were willing to open up their homes to board pets. I have had pets all my life, so I jumped at the chance! I became close to the animals I sat with and also with the pet's owners. Later, friends started asking if I would be willing to come to their house a couple of times a day while they went on vacation. I was happy to do it! Later, co-workers started asking if I could pet sit and then they started recommending me to their friends! So here it is 2014 and now I've decided to pet sit full-time! We have 1 dog and 3 cats! (more about them, below)
I also have sold pet products to Veterinarians and to individual pet owners! Ask me about Oxyfresh Pet Products for your pet!
I started pet sitting with my mom when I was very little. When I got older I started pet sitting on my own. I have pet sit for both friends and for pet sitting companies! Needless to say I have a lot of experience with pets of all shapes and sizes. I have also been certified in pet safety and first aid. I look forward to meeting you and your pets!
We acquired Hobbes from a co-worker and friend who had found a mother and her 2 kittens freezing on a very cold November night! My co-worker decided to keep the mother and the black kitten but needed a home for the Orange Tabby kitten. My son fell in love with him and needless to say, he came home with us! My son named him, Hobbes (after the cartoon Calvin and Hobbes). Hobbes has to be the most gentlest and sweetest cat ever! We also call him "The Greeter" because when someone walks into a room, he reaches out his paw for you to shake! He also has his own song that we made up when we adopted him and he loves for us to sing it! He especially loves to be held like a baby, and will tip his head toward you for lots of kisses
We adopted Penny after a neighbor moved and abandoned her and several other cats. When we would go for walks with our dog, Penny would always want to walk with us! We noticed that her ears and nose were always bloody and I would put antibiotics and other medicines to help her. I just fell in love with her and her personality! I just couldn't bear to see her living outside, even though we and other neighbors made sure she had food and water, so we adopted her. We took her to the Vet for a check-up and updated vaccinations and were told she had Feline Stomatis. This is a very painful condition in cats where all of the mouth and throat are red, inflamed and swollen and makes eating and swallowing difficult. The only remedy is to have all their teeth extracted. We took her to a special dental Veterinarian and he performed the surgery. Right after the surgery the Vet called and said that it was done and that he couldn't believe how that girl could eat! Penny recovered nicely; her mouth and throat are pink and healthy and you would never know that she had anything done! We keep her on a "soft" diet. She also has Feline Hyperesthesia- a strange syndrome that cats can have any of the following symptoms: rolling their fur, aggressiveness, growling, attacking themselves, other animals or walls. Penny just has episodes of growling and hissing. But we notice that she mainly uses those tactics if she is hungry, wants attention, or if a door is closed and she wants in a room. She is hardly afraid of anything or anyone! She is very bossy with our dog, our other cats and even us! Thus Penny earned the nickname, "The Queen".
We adopted Zooey after a neighbor on the other side of us, moved and abandoned her. We would always see her alone in the park across the street and were very worried about her, but she was wary and would always dash off. She never really grew much and looks more like a kitten and mews like a kitten. Some new neighbors moved in and were feeding her, but after a while, we noticed that she was losing her fur all over her body and she had bleeding and infected sores all over. Her ears had even curled and were crusty and infected. She had lost a tremendous amount of weight. She was constantly running to avoid cars and people. Even though we already had 2 cats and a dog, we knew she needed medical attention and a safe home indoors, so we decided to adopt her. But she would run so fast and hide, that it took all summer to catch her. We finally caught her and took her to the Vet for a complete check-up and vaccinations. We brought her home and she is now a healthy and happy girl and strictly an indoor cat. She gained weight quickly and her fur grew back. And to our surprise, even her ears un-curled and are healthy looking. She quickly dashes about the house and quickly jumps on and over things like a monkey (as she did when she was living outdoors) and makes little monkey noises; thus she earned the nickname "Monkey".
We adopted Theodore from the SPCA. When we first saw him, we fell in love with him. We decided right then and there to adopt him. As they were preparing the papers, they came out and told us that he was not supposed to have been in the section for pets to be adopted. He was still recovering from a fractured hip from when they found him and that he probably would not be adoptable due to complications. I cried so much and refused to leave that they had the Vet come out and talk to me. They showed me his x-rays and said he would never be normal. I didn't care. He was only seven months old and I didn't want him put down . The Vet said that if I signed papers showing that I was told of his condition and prognosis, that we could adopt him. I did and Theodore went home with us. Just a couple of months later as we were taking him for a walk, all of a sudden he fell and screamed in pain. We picked him up and took him to Gulf Coast Emergency Hospital where we were told that his leg came loose from the hip socket (due to the previous injury that we were told about from the SPCA) They informed us that he needed special surgery and needed to go to another pet hospital that specialized in that kind of surgery. Twenty-four hours later, Theodore had surgery and we were able to bring him home 3 days later. He is now 2 years old and walks with a little skip now and then, but otherwise is a very healthy and happy little guy who loves to play and is very protective of us and our 3 cats! We absolutely love him!
